Choctaw County, Miss. (WCBI) — Three new members to the Choctaw County Board of Supervisors were sworn in Monday night.

Joey Stephenson of District 1, Greg Fondren of District 2, and John Shumaker of District 4 will all take over the office starting January 4th, 2016.

“We’ve been going to board meetings, and I think all three of us are ready to do our job”, said Fondren.

All three of the new supervisors credit their business backgrounds as a reason for confidence in their new positions.

Fondren owned his own timber business for 25 years. Shumaker spent 31 years with 4-County Electric Power Association. Stephenson spent time as a contractor, as well as owned his own construction business.

Stephenson also ran for supervisor 4 years ago, but “barely lost”.

“We got a unique situation in this county…”, said Fondren, “…with the coal mine money we have coming in…this board I think we’re putting together now will really be able to work with the people.”
