CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)- No one likes a litter bug.

Illegal dumping and littering has become an increasingly large problem throughout the North Mississippi, including Clay County.

People are leaving all kinds of trash. It’s not uncommon to see couches and refrigerators left in ditches, and on the side of the road.

County leaders are concerned because they say littering brings down property values, and discourages people from moving into the area.

“We can pick up that paper today and tomorrow you can ride down through there and you can still see where somebody’s thrown something out again,” said Clay County Supervisor Luke Lummus.

Littering and illegal dumping can result in expensive fines or arrests.

For more information about where to take your trash or to report littering or illegal dumping, contact your city or county officials.
