COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A Lowndes County deputy is recovering after a fiery crash that left him and his K9 injured.

The patrol car hit a power pole on Lehmberg Road about noon on Wednesday.

Deputy Jeff Edmondson was taken to Baptist Golden Triangle. He has non-life threatening injuries and is in stable condition.

Investigators say it appears Edmondson was on his way to a call, with emergency lights and sirens on, when a car pulled in front of him from West Lehmberg onto Lehmberg Road.

Edmondson swerved to miss the vehicle but they still collided. His cruiser then jumped the curb and hit a utility pole.

The patrol car caught fire and a power line was knocked down, across the Highway 82 over pass and Lehmberg Road.

Some grass also caught on fire.

The unidentified female driver in the other vehicle was also injured.

Edmondson’s K9, Igor, was taken across the street to Animal Health Services and did not have any visible injuries.
