UPDATE: Nurse Practitioner Held On Mission Trip

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – The effort to get a Starkville nurse practitioner released from a Macedonian prison finds friends on Facebook.

A page has been set up on the social media site to spread the word about Candace Dunlap.

Dunlap, who is a full time staff member at OCH Regional Medical Center, was detained by government officials last week as she tried to leave the country following a mission trip. According to reports, she was arrested because a search of her purse turned up Macedonian coins.  She is charged with smuggling.

The Facebook page is called, “Prayers for Candi.”  Several funds have been established for donations.

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Diplomatic efforts are underway to free a Meridian nurse practitioner being held by the Macedonian government. Candace Nelson, who is a full time staff member at OCH Regional Medical Center, was detained by government officials last week as she tried to leave the country following a mission trip.

Nelson was in Macedonia as part of a group from Meridians Fifteenth Avenue Baptist church. Details on why Nelson was taken into in custody have not been released but it is thought it revolves around Nelson having some Macedonian coins in her possession as she went through customs.
