Sweet Crop Harvest In Calhoun County

CALHOUN COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Sweet Potato Farmers are faring well this season, so far with about ten to twenty percent of his crop in, one Calhoun County farmer is already feeling sweet.

Potato farmer Preston McGreger, began harvesting just after Labor Day. McGreger farms about 208 acres that must come out of the field and be ready for market. Fields have been dusty and farmers are hoping for rain.

“Rain would actually help size the rest of the sweet potato up that we have in the field. It would also prevent scratching of the potatoes which would make the skin peel. Which would make the product less appealing to the customer,” said McGreger.

McGreger has only harvested about a fourth of his crop so far.
