LOUISVILLE, Miss.(wcbi)–Exactly a year ago today [Tuesday] ten people lost their lives when a tornado ripped through Louisville and Winston County. State and local leaders and residents came together at Louisville Memorial Park Cemetary to make sure they are not forgotten.

At Louisville Memorial Park Cemetary they came to remember and reflect on the tragedy that claimed too many lives.

“Three of the attended my church, East Louisville Baptist. And I didn’t know them really well but I knew them when I saw them. Good people,” said Janice Dill/Louisville.

“Its been a long hard year of recovery for a lot of people who lost a lot,” said Angela McCullough/Louisville.

There was indeed sadness at the loss of life in that 2014 storm, but there was also praise for a brave people who since their trial have remained strong. Governor Phil Bryant attended the dedication, First Lady Deborah Bryant got a standing ovation for her service that day. She was on hand to give assistance during the ordeal.

“I just happened to be through here. I believe God puts us exactly where we’re suppose to be at certain times and I think this was where I was suppose to be,” said First Lady Deborah Bryant/Mississippi.

“I can assure you at that moment you take each one of those losses personal. And I am so very sorry for your loss,” said Governor Phil Bryant/Mississippi.

Ten names memorialized in beautiful granite stone, granite benches, and a landscape to include beautiful yellow flowers. The purpose of a memorial is to say we remember. The people attending this ceremony are saying these victims are not forgotten.

“I think its beautiful they have incorporated the armed services in the memorial process so they are represented as well. As well as the symbolism of the trees and the sunflowers just to remember what these people that were lost brought to our community,” said Angela McCullough.

Ten evergreen trees for 10 victims. In time those trees should grow together, like the community they represent.
