TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Recent stormy weather has slowed debris removal in Tupelo communities hit during last month’s tornado outbreak.

A Tupelo spokesperson says monitors cannot observe work in the rain, and the road to the landfill is more difficult to pass with large trucks.

However, progress is being made. Thus far, more than 202,000 cubic yards of debris have been removed.

Officials urge residents to continue to move rubble to the curb.

The first pass of removal should be complete in less than 10 days.

Tupelo is also working with nonprofit organizations to assist people who are having trouble removing debris.
