HOUSTON, Miss.(WCBI) — When Trace Regional Hospital in Houston closed the doors to it’s emergency room, Chickasaw County Supervisors went scrambling to stabilize healthcare by opening up a bid for ambulance service.

As Chickasaw County officials prepared to take the vote Tuesday at a critical time when an ambulance provider is needed to transport sick, wounded, and injured people to area hospitals for treatment, they know they must say no to TransCare Ambulance Service after a 4 year commitment. MedStat Emergency Medical Service is their new choice.

“I just went with it because I feel like its a better service. I feel like that MedStat will furnish better trained people and without an emergency room we going to need better trained people. seeing after the people of Chickasaw County,” said Russell King/Chickasaw County Supervisor.

TransCare also submitted a bid, but supervisors went with the latter. MedStat will be on the county payroll at a cost of about one thousand dollars less than TransCare.

“We’ll be saving with the new ambulance service. We’ll be saving 975 a month,” said King.

MedStat, the newest kid on the block is expected to be on the job 24/7, and better equipped.

“They have a EMT and a paramedic on each truck, where our previous carrier had a driver and a paramedic. So we’re getting better service at less cost,” said King.

Chickasaw County Supervisors have chosen to go with MedStat to provide ambulance service. Now all that’s left is for the two parties to sign on the dotted line.

MedStat provides ambulance service to 15 counties and has a dispatching center in Winona. They are expected to take over in about a month.
