JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) — Even when they aren’t in session, state lawmakers hear from constituents.

And they say the concerns at home range from university and education funding to local streets and drainage.

Republican State Representative Jim Beckett of Calhoun says as a group, lawmakers will spend a lot of time this summer looking at higher education funding and utilities.

But Beckett wouldn’t guess on a winner in the June 24 U.S. Senate runoff that has divided the state’s republicans.

“I’m not sure who is going to win,” Beckett said. “It’s going to be interesting to see what the turnout is — if it increases, or decreases, or stays about the same.”

Beckett is in his second term representing the 23rd district.
