Macon police warn of fake check scam

MACON, Miss. (WCBI) – When it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

The Macon Police Department said this is a fake check. It was sent to a local resident. And it looks like it is from the Lee County Tax Collector.

The person who received the check was told to deposit it, keep $400 and send the rest to a third party. But this is not from Lee County.

And, if you follow directions and send $1,400 to the third party, you will be out that much money.

Officer Carlos Hill said the department is continuing to investigate the scam.
