Dudy Noble Field gets a new look, with the same magic

MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIV., Miss. (WCBI) – Two years ago when the last light went out at Dudy Noble field, the construction trucks and trailers moved in.

People hate it. People love it.

But this week, Mississippi State baseball fans get to walk through the gates of the new Dudy Noble field.

Dudy Noble Field has seen its share of tradition through out the years.

Now the baseball team and the fans celebrate a new beginning, along with the legacy they will never forget.

Friday is opening day.

And, this year, Dudy Noble Field is ready to hold the same magic as it did years ago..

“A lot of love, a lot of fans, a lot of excitement and a lot of antics over the years out there but mostly it is the fans and the players who have been here to make this facility possible,”said editor of DawgsBite David Murray.

There’s the 20 new suites, two batting cages, and a players’ lounge. The renovations are estimated around $60 million.

And the old.

“Uh there was a lot of talk about, uh, the left field lounge and the old traditions and the way it was and everything. If they had to tear it down, if they had to tear it down, old one and I understand the reasons why then I think they did as good job as they possibly could and putting the one back that they put there. Because it’s a beautiful facility and a lot of the traditions will still be there,” said MSU baseball fan Everett Kinnard.

The architects and planners keep tradition alive by using the same wood from the old left lounge rigs.

Long time fans said this brings joy and, a little nostalgia.

“We have a saying out there that when you get to heaven, there’s gonna be, sign out there that’s gone say formerly left field lounge at Dudy Noble Field. It’s first class,”said Kinnard.

Fans old and new are ready for Friday’s opening day.
