Lowndes Co. Board selects Will Cooper to succeed Board Attorney Tim Hudson

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – For the first time in 26 years, the Lowndes County Board of Supervisors will have new legal representation.
Earlier this year, Board Attorney Tim Hudson announced he would be retiring.
Hudson has served in the position since January 2000.
Today, supervisors named his replacement.
The Board selected Columbus attorney Will Cooper to succeed Hudson.
Cooper has extensive experience serving on both public and private boards. He is also the County Prosecutor and a partner in Columbus law firm Crowell, Gillis, and Cooper.
Supervisors say replacing Hudson isn’t easy, but they think they found the right person.
“It’s a testament, I think, to Tim, and the way he’s worked through all the years, 26 years; he’s been very fair, honest, of course, willing to give good common sense opinions when it comes to legal matters. We’re going to miss him. We’re going to miss him. But we think we have a good person in place that’s going to handle that job very well and very professionally,” said Lowndes Co. Supervisors president Trip Hairston.
“And, I believe my legal experience over the last 34 years here in Lowndes County lends really well to this, because I’ve covered litigation, business transactional work, the governmental entity work that we talked about, so from a standpoint of risk management, so from a standpoint of representation, representing the county, I think it’s a good fit, and I look forward to serving the citizens of Lowndes County and this group of the Board of Supervisors,” said Board Attorney Appointee Will Cooper.
Cooper is expected to take over the board attorney job around the first of September.
