Hot Day, Stormy Night
COLUMBUS, Mississippi (WCBI) — Some sunshine will warm us up significantly around the midday hours, but scattered storms will start moving through our area later in the afternoon.
THURSDAY: A Heat Advisory is in effect for today from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. for heat index values above 105°. This advisory covers most of our area, except for those counties adjacent to the Tennessee state line — although it will still be feeling very hot for all of us. The actual high air temperature will be around 100° in the afternoon. A marginal severe weather outlook has also been issued by the Storm Prediction Center for our entire area for some severe scattered storms, damaging wind gusts, and a very isolated threat of hail. This threat for isolated storms will begin in the mid-afternoon hours, and increase to more scattered storms in the evening. Winds will be out of the west at 5 mph, although we could see some isolated gusts much higher than that in those storms.
THURSDAY NIGHT: The threat of scattered thunderstorms will continue past midnight. Clouds will continue to build into our area overnight. The low temperature will be around 73°, with winds calming down approaching sunrise.
FRIDAY: It won’t be quite as hot, with a high temperature of 96°, but heat index values could still get up to 105°. Skies will be mostly sunny, but there is still a 20% chance for isolated showers and thunderstorms to push across our area in the late afternoon.
