Seasonable Summer Conditions

COLUMBUS, Mississippi (WCBI) — After a brutal week of heat index values soaring above 100°, slightly more mild and seasonable conditions will be settling into our area.

MONDAY: The high temperature for today will be around 94°, but that heat index value isn’t likely to reach 100°, sticking closer to 97° at peak heating. There is a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms in effect for portions of Carroll, Attala, Leake, and Neshoba counties, with some possibly damaging wind gusts. However, it’s not likely that those of us further to the north and east will see any of that severe weather, with conditions staying mostly sunny outside of any isolated thunderstorms. It will be a bit breezy, with sustained winds around 5 mph out of the north-northwest.

MONDAY NIGHT: It will be an overall pleasant evening, with a low temperature of 72° and partly cloudy skies. Some showers or isolated storms may linger out to the west overnight.

TUESDAY: The high temperature will be 94°, and the heat index will peak around 99° in the afternoon. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will move through our area, primarily sticking toward the western portions of our area (i.e., closer to the central/western parts of Mississippi). Skies will be partly cloudy.
