City of Aliceville officially changes the city park name to Robert Wilder Park

ALICEVILLE, ALA. – The city of Aliceville officially unveiled a new sign today, marking the official name change of the city’s park to Robert Wilder Park.

Robert Wilder was an active member of the Aliceville community, as he had a long list of titles between fields such as the park and different boards. Aliceville Mayor Terrence Windham spoke at the sign unveiling.

“Mr. Wilder served many years in the elected official capacity,” said Windham. “He also worked with athletics very heavily in softball. And so, he did an excellent job as a community advocate as well. And so that’s why I want to make sure that we recognize him and things that he has done and recognize his gifts to our community.”

Wilder also served as a city councilman for over 17 years and a member of the board of education for over 30 years. He also operated a local business called the Aliceville Activity Center. His daughter Dominique Wilder also spoke at the event about the impact and meaning the new parks’ name means to their family.

“It means a lot and it shows the amount of work you’ve done,” said Wilder. “It speaks for you and your gift will make room for you. You don’t have to go find it, it’ll come chasing you and find you. And it’s a blessing to us. It’s a blessing. Many doors, many opportunities, and to know that my dad, a pillar in this community, has a park named after him. So, it means a lot to us.”

Mr. Wilder passed away on March 19, 2025.
