Friends and families pray for victims of school bus crash

ARTESIA, Miss. (WCBI) – Lowndes County residents turned out in force Wednessday evening to show their support for the victims of Tuesday’s school bus crash and their families.

The Town of Artesia hosted a prayer vigil for those families.

16 West Lowndes Elementary School students were injured when their school bus collided with a car, ran off the road, and rolled down an embankment.

Community members rallied together to pray for strength and healing, and to show the families that their community is standing with them, and that they are thankful no lives were lost.

“But we’re so thankful that there wasn’t no deaths. Everybody was able to walk away, or somebody helped them walk away. So, that was so amazing. From looking at that bus, oh man, God was with us! God was with them! Yes, he was!”

“My baby asked me last night, ‘Mom, did God come stop the bus? I said ‘Baby, God did send some angels.’ There was enough angels for everybody to protect y’all, the driver, the other driver, you know.”

One of those injured students was released from the hospital Wednesday, and made it home in time to go to the vigil.
