The search for “Super Dad of the Year” is on, and a local man is in the running

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)-

A Northeast Mississippi man is in the running for a nationwide search for the “Super Dad of the Year.”

Allie Martin introduces us to the Saltillo husband and dad, whose love for family and his work in the community and also as an advocate for foster care, is inspiring people far beyond the state.

Earlier this summer, Lucas Foley learned he had been nominated for a national contest, known as Super Dad of the Year.

‘Did some research and decided I would complete signup.”

He is now in the quarter finals, or the top one percent of the competition. It is sponsored by Ace Hardware and Omaha Steaks and is a fundraiser for the Childrens Miracle Network.

Lucas works with Mississippi Balance of State Continium of Care, a group that helps organize and streamline services for the homeless. His family also practices homesteading, meeting daily needs through self-sufficiency.
The Foleys are also advocates for foster children, they have five children, one of which is adopted. The Foleys keep their kids off social media for privacy and safety. Lucas says being a husband and dad are his two most important roles in life.

“The biggest thing for me about being a father is not protection or providing, my ultimate goal is to make sure our kids know Jesus and see His love and His light through me as a father and I try and emulate that everyday, I fail more often than not, but whoever nominated me for Super Dad and keeps voting, I am thankful they see that too.”

Rachel Foley is a stay at home mom, who homeschools the kids. She doesn’t know who nominated her husband for the contest, but says he is a great role model.

“He truly is a Super Dad, we have five children and he does whatever it takes to keep us home and homeschooling, we couldn’t ask for anything more.”

There is a huge grand prize at stake in the compeititon.

” A 25 thousand dollar grand prize, we could grow and expand our homestead.
I try and do as much free stuff as possible, we have gardening out front as well.”

25 thousand dollars would help

“Sure would, we have a lot of mouths to feed.”
