Columbus Public Works issued raises for some employees, but not all
COLUMBUS, Miss (WCBI)-
Some Columbus Public Works employees are getting raises, but the Director won’t be one of them.
Truck drivers in the department had been given a greater than three percent raise in the new budget.
Public Works Director Casey Bush had been given the standard three percent raise, but at a special call meeting Monday morning, the Columbus City Council rescinded that increase.
Some members of the Council said that they had not intended to include him in the raises.
Bush’s current salary is around 80 thousand dollars a year.
There was also some discussion about what to do with salaries associated with the city landfill.
Some council members want to take that money and use it in other areas; however, even though the landfill is closed to the public, the city is still using it. Added to that, Mayor Stephen Jones says he believes those employees are still on the job.
The city is in the process of closing down the landfill
