JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – Fantasy sports companies Draft Kings and Fan Duel both say they are suspending operations in Mississippi but that departure may be temporary.

The companies made the move after Attorney General Jim Hood issued an opinion calling the fantasy sports leagues illegal gambling websites under state law.

That ruling has led to a bill in the Senate which would legalize the games under certain conditions.

The games could operate if the owners allowed an independent audit annually, placed all of the player wagers in a separate escrow account and limited play to people 18 years and older.

The Senate Judiciary Committee has already approved the bill.
