JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – Governor Phil Bryant has declared the month of April to be Confederate History Month.
He reportedly signed a proclamation February 10th.
Although that proclamation does not appear on the State of Mississippi’s website, it can be found on the Sons of Confederate Veterans website.
In a statement sent to WCBI by Bryant’s director of communications Clay Chandler, he said,
“Like his predecessors — both Republican and Democrat — who issued similar proclamations, Governor Bryant believes Mississippi’s history deserves study and reflection, no matter how unpleasant or complicated parts of it may be. Like the proclamation says, gaining insight from our mistakes and successes will help us move forward.”
