Booneville Fire Department hopes to douse competition on new CBS show

BOONEVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – A Northeast Mississippi fire department is hoping to douse the competition as they run for the top spot on a CBS show.

When the Booneville Fire Department completed the lip sync challenge one year ago, they knew they had a great video, but they didn’t realize it would have a national audience.

“It went like wildfire from there,” said Capt. Greg Davis.

Captain Greg Davis’ wife was able to get Booneville native Trevor George in on the project. He works in the music industry in Nashville and has produced a number of music videos. George chose the song and concept, getting the entire community involved in the professional production.

The video caught the attention of producers for the CBS show, “Lip Sync to the Rescue.” It is one of 30 videos on the show’s website.

People have been able to vote for their favorite all summer.

“We was very surprised and overwhelmed by how many people liked the video and liked the comments, as of today, there has been negative comment about the video, all been good comments,” said Capt. Davis.

Monday night, during the CBS show, “Lip Sync To The Rescue,” the top ten videos will be announced and viewers will be able to vote live for the winner. The winner, by the way, get a grand prize of a hundred thousand dollars.

“Municipalities just don’t have tons of money sitting out there to operate on, I don’t know how that money would be allowed to be used, but however it could be used, there’s so many different things each of us could come up with, equipment adding stuff to stations, upgrading some stuff,” said Bryan Westbrook, chief of fire prevention.

The exposure from the viral music video has also helped build stronger relationships between first responders and the community, while allowing people to see a lighter side of those who protect and serve. Still, winning the top prize wouldn’t be bad.

“A huge bonus,” Westbrook said.

Lip Sync To The Rescue will air Monday at 7 p.m. on WCBI.

Booneville Fire Department will host a watch party at the fire station during the show.
