Former Judge Pleads Guilty In Sex For Social Security Case
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) – A former federal judge in Tuscaloosa has pleaded guilty to allegations he had sex with a woman trying to get Social Security benefits and then attempted to cover it up.
The Tuscaloosa News reports Thursday (http://bit.ly/2eff35y ) that Paul Stribling Conger Jr. pleaded guilty Wednesday to obstructing justice, accepting a gratuity for an official act while serving as a public official and stealing government property.
His attorney William Chambers Waller IV described his actions as a one-time mistake in an otherwise prestigious career.
Conger was a judge for the Social Security Administration from 1999 to 2014.
Court documents laid out how he and a woman who wanted help getting benefits engaged in sexual activity in his chambers.
Authorities also say he lied to investigators and paid someone to destroy her phone.
