Key Leader In Mississippi Highway Development Dies
NEW ALBANY, MS (WCBI) – The man whose vision played a key role in developing Mississippi’s four lane highway system has passed away.
John David Pennebaker died Tuesday. The New Albany resident served 17 years in the Mississippi House of Representatives. During that tenure he chaired the House Transportation Committee which helped pass the 1987 Highway Bill. It’s that legislation which most credit for creating the states current four lane highway design. Pennebaker also served as Mayor of New Albany from 1969 until 1975 . Visitation is set for for Friday night from 5 until 9 at United Funeral Service in New Albany. Services will take place Saturday at 3:30 at New Albany Presbyterian Church. Pennebaker was 72 years old
