Monroe County woman dies after fire gets out of control

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – An elderly Monroe County woman died after a fire got out of control.

Coroner Alan Gurley said 83-year-old Annie Robeston died at her Booker T Road home, near Aberdeen, on Tuesday.

Robeston had been seen cleaning her yard and burning brush earlier in the day.

A neighbor called 911 after seeing a trailer on Robeston’s property on fire.

The dry brush allowed the flames to spread quickly, sparking an intense fire.

Gurley said the victim died of smoke inhalation.

The sheriff’s department and state fire marshal are investigating the fire.
