State Auditor Shad White travels state to talk about upcoming goals

MISSISSIPPI (WCBI) – State Auditor Shad White is crossing the state to talk about his goals for the upcoming legislative session.

The Republican is going into his second full term.

He wanted to form a commission to discuss how higher education funding was distributed to state universities.

White also wanted legislation passed that would reward whistleblowers of state and county corruption. It would give a portion of the money recovered to the whistleblower.

His office will also target contracts and other decisions made in illegal meetings by targeting the state’s open meetings law.

“I’m drafting legislation with the attorneys on my team to say, no… If you make a decision in an illegal closed-door meeting, that decision does not stand. That way the law becomes stronger,” said White.

White also wanted to provide a free community college education to high school seniors who graduated from the JROTC program.

The legislative session begins on January 2.
