Chickasaw County Gets Its First Emergency Room in nine years

HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI) – After nearly a decade, Trace Regional Hospital will reopen its emergency room doors and it will be under new management.

Quentin Whitwell, the CEO OF Progressive Health Group. The North Mississippi native has now acquired the only hospital in Chickasaw County.

“Houston Mississippi really got on my radar when I read about the tragic incident of a lady trying to be at an emergency room that was not open,” said Whitwell. “And I just felt like there’s no reason for that. They need an emergency room here. And we’re so very thankful that SunLink and Progressive Health Group, our entity were able to come to terms so that we could acquire this facility.”

Chickasaw Supervisor, Russell Brooks, says residents won’t have to spend life-saving minutes looking for immediate help.

“Instead of having to put your life on the line with those precious minutes going somewhere like Amory, Tupelo, or to some of the other surrounding counties, we now have a facility here in Chickasaw county that we can be proud of,” said Brooks.

Whitwell says the hospital doesn’t offer every service available, but the staff will make sure you get the service you need.

“I think you’re gonna be very pleasantly surprised to find that the things that we bring here are gonna assist you in not having to go long distances for most of your out-patient needs. We will have transfer agreements in place. We will work with the larger facilities. We will make sure that if you come here first, whether it be on an emergent basis or just when you’re in need, we’ll get you to where you need to be,” said Whitwell.
