Turner Hall officially dedicated on MUW campus
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – When Dr. Alma Turner came to the Mississippi University for Women in 1985 as the Principal for the Demonstration School, she probably never dreamed the building would one day bear her name.
Turner Hall was officially dedicated Friday on the MUW campus.
This is the new home to the Department of Speech-Language Pathology and the Speech and Hearing Center.
This is a space where Dr.Turner developed an elementary learning program and a gifted pre-school program.
Dr. Turner has been a teacher to student teachers on the W campus. Over the years, her service to MUW students and early childhood education has prompted plenty of recognition.
But this is special.
“It’s difficult to find words. Who would ever think of a building being named in their honor and you live to experience it? So I just thank God for the opportunity. It’s rare that I got a chance to experience this. I just thank everyone, including my family,” said Dr. Turner.
Students provided tours of the building after the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
