MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) — Work has started on a new veterans memorial in eastern Mississippi as Lauderdale County continues to restore its aging courthouse. The memorial is part of a project funded by a grant from the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. Bob Luke is with LPK Architects, the firm in charge of the restoration efforts. He says the memorial will include a flag pole and benches, plus the original monument plaques that stood in front of the courthouse. The plaques have been cleaned and restored. They will be installed on concrete pillars in the new memorial.
