Victim identified in fatal Hatley fire

HATLEY, Miss. (WCBI) – A medical device helped identify the woman killed in a Monroe County house fire.

Monroe County coroner Alan Gurley said 76-year-old Barbara Justice died inside the Hatley Detroit Road home.

The blaze happened at about 2 a.m on Monday.

Gurley said a serial number on an implanted medical device was used to identify Justice.

The autopsy has been completed.

However, Gurley told WCBI that the medical examiner is waiting on reports from Monroe County deputies and the State Fire Marshall before making a final determination on the cause of death.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
