Video: Aberdeen’s Ward Returns Home To Host Football Camp

ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) — Former Aberdeen All-American and Ole Miss Rebel Channing Ward returned home to host his own football camp.

Ward, along with former Ole Miss and Aberdeen players, gave back to children ages seven to twelve by handing down football knowledge gained through experience.

Now a defensive lineman in the National Football League with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, said he welcomes the opportunity to give back to his hometown.

“It’s good to give back and come back to the place where I first started playing,” Ward said.

“It’s a great feeling to give back. It’s just giving something positive to look at. Things can happen, you can make it from Aberdeen. It just helps to motivate them.”

Ward compiled five tackles in five appearance with the Buccaneers in his rookie season. Tampa Bay signed Ward as an undrafted free agent in 2016.

“It’s been a blessing,” Ward said of his NFL experience, “It’s been hard work at the same time. Just taking advantage of the opportunities that have been given to me, just blessed to make the team. It’s…a great feeling. Ain’t nothing like it.”

Ward played in all fifty two games in his career as an Ole Miss Rebel, and expects a good season from his alma mater even through the controversial offseason.

“I think it’ll be a good season. Just come out there and try and upset guys,” Ward said.

“We can’t go, don’t let nobody go. I think they’ll be ready, I think it’ll be a good year.”
