Video: RAINFALL AFFECT COTTON CROPS
STATEWIDE.(WCBI.COM)—Recent rainfall is taking a toll on cotton plants in Mississippi.
The cloudy, wet conditions are making cotton bolls on the top of the plants fall off.
Mississippi State Extension Service experts say there’s also a fungal disease impacting the crop because of humid conditions.
Cotton prices have been falling in recent weeks to about 67 cents a pound.
Some farmers will start harvesting cotton in late September and it should be wrapped up across the state by early November.
The extension service expects an above average harvest.
