CRAWFORD, Miss. (WCBI) – Sporting clays went up in the air Friday in Crawford.

The shooters were taking them out with a bang and the group is shooting to take East Mississippi Community College to the next level.
It’s a friendly competition but these shooters aim to hit the mark during the 7th Annual Sporting Clays Challenge Cup.

“It’s a fun event and it’s a friend-raiser and a fundraiser,” said EMCC’s Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Alumni Affairs Nick Clark.

The money will support the “Bull” Sullivan Memorial Division at EMCC.

The development supports the college’s athletics and instructional programs.

“Whatever the needs are, we’re there and we’re right now in a tremendous building program, so every little bit helps. I promise,” said Clark.

Sporting Clay has been around for decades.

Chris Morrow’s company, Pryor & Morrow Architects and Engineers, have  sponsored the competition since it began.

He says there are some key points to remember while shooting.

“A lot of it is a mental game. If you’re thinking to hard, you probably wont shoot well. There’s some intuitive skills that come with shooting,” said Morrow.

If you’re an avid shooter, or a beginner, it didn’t matter at this shoot. Everyone was happy to donate.

“The college means so much to our area for our workforce development, as well as for our future for our kids, the education they get there, what it means to us in indescribable,” said participant Bruff Sanders.

About 100 shooters participated in the competition.
There were prizes for the top team winners.
