Video: Starkville 13U Ready To Make Noise In Regional Tournament

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Starkville will yet again be represented on the national stage in Little League baseball.

The 13U Little League All Star team is heading to Grand Junction, Colorado to compete in the Southwest Regional tournament, with the winner having the opportunity to travel to Livermore, California to compete in the World Series.

Manager Tom McReynold’s 13U squad is the first team of thirteen year old players to reach a Regional in the Intermediate 50/70 class in the state of Mississippi.

The Intermediate 50/70 class utilizes a fifty-foot pitching distance, as well as seventy-foot base paths. The class was introduced to rising thirteen year old baseball players back in 2010.

This year’s team is made up of many of the players that experienced the past two years of competing for a spot in the 11U and 12U Little League World Series.

“We’ve had two years of going into the younger age with, what they call the major division, and I think the boys, a lot of these boys went to that last year and they know how well it’s run and how much excitement there is,” McReynolds said.

The Starkville All-Stars will compete against teams from Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico.

McReynolds and company will head to Colorado July 19th to compete in the tournament that runs from July 20th through the 26th.

The games will not be televised while in Colorado.
