COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — If you are more interested in giving back then eating on Thanksgiving, the Tupelo Salvation Army is where you needed to be, Thursday. The group provided free Thanksgiving lunch to hundreds.

The annual event started out in a home and grew so big that it started being done at the Salvation Army a few years ago. Salvation Army relies on hundreds to volunteer by helping to make plates and to deliver to go boxes for people who can’t get out. The event tries to accomplish one thing at every annual feeding says Salvation Army Commanding Officer, Jeff Daniel.

“Well the overall goal is that we’re going to feed 3,500 people who otherwise, wouldn’t have a Thanksgiving if it weren’t for the help of the Salvation Army.”

Food started being prepared during the first week of November.

It costs the Salvation Army around $10,000 to put this on, but to them it’s worth every dime.
