Columbus to Host Christmas Tree Bonfire

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Residents wanting to get rid of their Christmas trees have a chance to do so, Thursday.

That’s because the city of Columbus is hosting its first Christmas tree bonfire.

Residents still have until 3:30 p.m. to bring their trees to two drop-off points in Columbus.

One is at the city garage at the Martin Luther King and Bell Avenue intersection.

Trees can also be dropped off at the Hitching Lot on Second Avenue North.

The city has been collecting trees since Monday.

The bonfire will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Columbus Riverwalk, and Old 82 pedestrian bridge.

Residents can also watch Chinese lanterns be launched from the bridge around 5:30 p.m.

The city will provide hot chocolate and hand warmers for some who attend the event.
