COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Hundreds of people volunteered their time Friday to make Columbus a little nicer.

Volunteers were out painting and cleaning up areas around town.

It’s all part of united ways annual 911 Day of Service and organizers and volunteers say it’s not only honoring those who died that day, but is a great way for the community to come together.

“Wonderful, it feels great to see the community, especially all the businesses together, and to really see who they are, a lot of people see them in their offices, and work places, but it’s so nice to see them come out” “college students, you know we’re preparing ourselves to become a part of the community, says organizer Renee Sanders.

Sanders say there are always volunteer opportunities through the United Way. For more information on that or their fundraising campaign click here.
