Update: Fatal Monroe County Collision

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (Press Release) – MHP responded to a fatal accident Thursday morning around 9:42 AM on MS Hwy. 278 in Monroe County, 1 mile east of Greenwood Springs Road.

A white 1994 Honda Accord was traveling east on MS 278. The Honda drifted into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a white, 2000 Ford F150, traveling west. The accident occurred on the east end of the Buttahatchee River bridge causing traffic to be delayed around an hour.

The driver, of the Ford F150, 67 year old Almon Daniel Gann of Hamilton Al, and his passenger 71 year old Dwayne Freeman, of Hamilton Al, both sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital for further medical treatment.

Mr.Gann and Mr. Freeman were wearing their seatbelts.

The driver of the Honda Accord, 35 year old, Clifton Luke Tubb, of Amory was pronounced dead at the scene by Monroe County Coroner, Alan Gurly. Mr. Tubb was not wearing is seatbelt.

The accident remains under investigation by MHP.

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Becker man is killed in a head-on crash on Highway 278 in Monroe County.

It happened about 9:30 AM on Thursday on the Buttahatchee River Bridge, about a mile east of Greenwood Springs.

Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley says Luke Tubb, 35, died at the scene.

Two other people were injured. No word on their conditions at this time.

Tubb’s car collided with a Ford pick-up.

State troopers are investigating the accident.
