Columbus, Miss. (WCBI) — With the holidays comes a ton of traveling. Looking back 5 years ago, gas prices are making travel plans a little easier.

Mississippigasprices.com says the average price for a gallon of regular in the state is $1.97.

4 years ago, the price was around $3.21.

Many local drivers are hoping these prices stay the way they are.

“…I love them!”, says Lizzie Profiet, “…they can stay this way…I just enjoy it so much.”

With the holidays fast approaching, people are breathing a little easier when filling up.

“it was ridiculous…you could go nowhere because the gas was up…”, said Edwin Hernandez, “…but now, the gas is down so everything is okay.”

Driver Roger Lovick said when the holiday season comes around, the gas prices mean nothing to him because it’s meant to go and spend time with loved ones.

The national average for a gallon of gas is currently $2.19.
