COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A Columbus man will spend the rest of his life in prison for pulling the trigger in a deadly shooting last year.

A Lowndes County jury took just over 2 hours to find Kale Scott guilty of killing 21 year-old Devin Montgomery in May 2014 at a graduation party at the Columbus Fairgrounds.

Scott was convicted of both Murder and Aggravated Assault. He’ll serve life in prison on murder, and 10 years on aggravated assault, to run consecutively.

District Attorney Forrest Allgood hopes the verdict is some comfort to Montgomery’s family.

“No matter what happens, the victims feel the loss. No matter what happens, the defense family is going to feel the loss. Everybody loses functionally in court in some respects. Hopefully, in the end, justice is the only winner.”

There was a strong law enforcement presence around the courthouse after the verdict was read. At least one disturbance broke out, while the jury was deliberating.
