Missing Quitman Inmates Located

JACKSON, Miss. — Quitman County Community Work Center inmates Caleb Lee Davenport and Zachary Curtis Reed, who had escaped a worksite earlier today, are back in custody.

Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol officers captured them without incident at 4:28 p.m. today after State Trooper Marcus Brown, a former MDOC employee, spotted them walking, a mile north of Clarksdale along U.S. 61. One of the inmates had changed into free world clothing and the other was still wearing the state issued green and white MDOC outfit when they were caught.

Davenport and Reed left their work detail at the Coahoma County Community College shortly after noon today.

Davenport is serving a six-year sentence for three counts of burglary of a vehicle from Lauderdale County. Reed is serving a 5-year sentence for one count of grand larceny from Jones County.

They are being transported to the Mississippi State Penitentiary in Parchman and now each faces an additional 5-year sentence if convicted of escape.
