TUPELO, MS (WCBI) –  Noted Tupelo resident and philanthropist Elaine Hancock has died.  The 93 year old Tupelo resident passed away earlier this morning.  Hancock was the widow of the late L.D. Hancock who founded Hancock Fabrics.  She was well known for her many charitable endeavors in the region.  The Hancock family donated the land for the Sanctuary Hospice House, Harrisburg Baptist Church and the current Tupelo High School.  At that time, the high school land donation was the largest single donation ever made to public education in the state.
