COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Teachers from across the Golden Triangle are on the campus of Mississippi University For Women in Columbus for an annual conference.

Since 1983, the New Teacher Institute has been providing valuable, lessons, teaching tips  and insights from experienced educators to young teachers just finding their way around in the classroom. The conference also attracts experienced teachers looking for ways to jump start learning in their classrooms.

The Institute also is part of the Hall of Master Teachers program which is housed at MUW and recognizes some of the state’s top educators.

New teachers walk away with a sense of being renewed at a mid year point of the school year.

“Ready to go back and implement these new ideas in their classrooms. And they have relationships with these veteran teachers, people that they can turn to and, for mentorship,” explained Shelley Bock, the director of field experiences at MUW.

The new teachers usually get together with those seasoned educators at MUW’s annual conference held on the first Thursday in December.
