Video: Hidden Treasures — Circle M Plantation
MACON, Miss. (WCBI) – Hunting season is underway, and there is no doubt North Mississippi’s landscape is known for its good hunting. For generations people from around the country have been coming to one place in Noxubee County for its unique hunting experience.
With 2,400 acres of rolling hills and forest, it’s a hunter’s paradise at Circle M Plantation. It’s a peaceful escape in the Macon countryside and gearing up for its busiest time of year, quail season. Close to 1,500 birds have been ordered and the dogs are ready for visitors.
“It’s really the old southern plantation style hunting. We hunt on mules and wagons, have our dog boxes built on the back of the wagons, shoot birds, come back and have lunch, then go back out in the afternoon,” said manager Ronnie Higginbotham.
People come from all over the country for the great hunting experience at Circle M Plantation.
“All different kinds of people come, some have never been hunting before, others have been hunting all their life. They come from all over the United States. We’ve even had some from England I think,” Higginbotham said.
Circle M also offers deer and turkey hunting. A 50 acre lake is stocked with bass and bream. Cottages and a banquet hall make it a popular place for weddings, reunions, or business retreats. Circle M was a cotton plantation from the 1850s to the 1970s. It has changed owners over the years, but the hunting tradition has carried on.
“Everyone that has owned it has had the M in their name. When people come out here they say ‘wow I never knew this place existed, it’s so peaceful here.’ Local people even from Macon say they’ve lived in the area their whole life but never knew Circle M was here. Everyone really loves it,” said manager Tina Higginbotham.
Circle M Plantation is located on Paulette Road off of Highway 14 East in Macon. For more information visit, http://circlemplantation.com/ or call 662-726-5791. If you have any hidden treasures in your area, send ideas to firstname.lastname@example.org or Jillian at email@example.com.
