TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – He won on the ballot, but he lost in the State Supreme Court. Now, the Lee County Democratic Party is looking for a nominee for District 4 Justice Court Judge.

Last Tuesday, Incumbent Rickey Thompson unanimously won the Democratic primary for the seat, but Thursday the Mississippi Supreme Court refused to grant a rehearing on Thompson’s removal from office.

In 2014, the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance ordered Judge Thompson removed from office.

The party says it’s time to move forward with a new candidate.

“What I want to see is this thing done properly, as to the law and the people of District 4, you know, have a candidate that they can feel confident in and is capable of holding, the office and performing the duties of Justice Court Judge.”

A nominee could be announced by the end of this month.
