HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI) — We did have some sunshine in Columbus today [Tuesday] but, when there is an excessive amount of rainfall, like we have been experiencing there is a problem with mosquitoes.

In addition to just being a nuisance, one mosquito bite in animals and man can transmit the West Nile Virus. There are some percussions that can be taken to eradicate their breeding grounds to avoid having them lay eggs there.

“The best thing to do around the house, are their any containers that are holding water. After all these rains need to be spilled or drained. Keep your scrubs trimmed properly, grass cut when you can. And keep their hiding places down to a minimum,” said Scott Cagle/MSU Extension Agent.

Extension agents suggest even planting chrysanthemums to repel mosquitoes.
