COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Mississippi University for Women has a plan for its future, but it will need help from the legislature.

“W” President Dr. Jim Borsig says the university is in the pre-planning stages to build a new Culinary Arts building.

Plans call for Taylor and Keirn Halls to be torn down next summer and replaced with the new facility.

For 20 years students have learned how to cook in Shattuck Hall.

State lawmakers approved a three year plan on state bonds last term.

“We’re hoping that the leadership will continue that with a four year plan in the next term, so we can better plan and we can be smarter about how we spend our money. And we can raise money from other sources,” said Borsig.

A second phase of the plan calls for moving some academic classes in the college of Nursing and Speech Language Pathology to the former Demonstration School.
