Video: NCAA Tournament Boosts Local Businesses

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Thousands of fans are in Bulldog Country this weekend, for the NCAA Women’s Tournament.

Hotels are booked and local businesses are seeing a spike in sales, as fans from around the country come to support their favorite basketball team.

In addition to the women’s tournament, there is also a landscaping conference, a gymnastic competition and softball games on campus this weekend.

The store owner at The Lodge says his business has had a steady flow of customers so far.

“Should be outstanding for Sunday. Anything like that is wonderful and I think the fans have really supported the women’s basketball program,” said John Hendricks.

Hendricks also says Starkville traffic has been heavier than usual, so keep that in mind if you plan on traveling this weekend.
