COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) -Home grown and giving back. That’s the focus of a program that mentors Mississippi students who want to pursue a career in medicine and work in Mississippi. The executive director of the Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program spoke to the Rotary Club in Columbus today.

She says the students in the program get academic enrichment and hands-on mentoring with working physicians in the state.

“For people who are from a rural area of Mississippi or students who really have a commitment to rural Mississippi; people who want to go back and give back in those communities.”

The program is based in Madison. Students who want to apply for the program are advised to do so two and half years before they plan to enter medical school.
