TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) -A well known Tupelo business landmark has been sold and will soon be demolished, to make way for a commercial development.

At a Monday afternoon press conference, Tupelo city leaders announced that the former “Hancock Fabrics” building, across from Ballard Park, has been sold.

The front portion of the office and warehouse facility will be torn down, and a strip shopping center will be built in its place.

Also, plans call for a traffic light to be installed at Rutherford Drive and West Main Street.

“It’s a process that takes years and we’ve gotten close several times since I’ve been in office, glad to finally see it taking place and we look forward to more announcements in the future as we learn who the tenants are and when the opening of the businesses will be. ”

Officials say the new owners have plans to develop more of the area in the future.
