Police also confirmed that inside the hotel room there was a small amount of marijuana discovered.

Cody Chaffins of Fox 5 Sports in Atlanta was the first to report the news regarding Nkemdiche on Sunday.

Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze released the following statement: “We are still learning about the matter, but obviously Robert’s well-being is our greatest concern.”

According to Daniel Paulling at the Clarion-Ledger, Nkemdiche was conscious and breathing when officers responded to the incident and was in stable condition when taken to a local hospital.

The junior defensive lineman has 29 tackles and three sacks this season and many NFL mock drafts have him taken in the first round of the upcoming 2016 NFL Draft.

Ole Miss is scheduled to play Oklahoma State in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day, 7:30pm on ESPN. Nkemdiche’s status for the game remains uncertain.
